🔥 𝐃ī𝐤ṣā 𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐮-𝐯𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐚, 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐬 𝐍𝐨 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

𝖲𝖾𝗏𝖺𝗂𝗍-𝖯𝗋𝖾𝗌𝗂𝖽𝖾𝗇𝗍-𝖠𝖼𝗁𝖺𝗋𝗒𝖺, 𝖲𝗋𝗂 𝖢𝗁𝖺𝗂𝗍𝖺𝗇𝗒𝖺 𝖲𝖺𝗋𝖺𝗌𝗐𝖺𝗍 𝖬𝖺𝗍𝗁
𝖭𝗋𝗂𝗌𝗂𝗇𝗀𝗁𝖺 𝖯𝖺𝗅𝗅𝗂, 𝖭𝖺𝖻𝖺𝖽𝗐𝗂𝗉 𝖣𝗁𝖺𝗆, 𝖶𝖾𝗌𝗍 𝖡𝖾𝗇𝗀𝖺𝗅, 𝖨𝗇𝖽𝗂𝖺
📲 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐀𝐩𝐩 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐥

In the authentic current of Guru-paramparā, 𝐝ī𝐤ṣā (𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧) is not a mere ceremony, nor a social or institutional formality—it is the 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥’𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐛𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐞. Śrīla Jīva Goswāmī has defined it profoundly in 𝘉𝘩𝘢𝘬𝘵𝘪-𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘩𝘢 (283):

𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘺𝘢ṁ 𝘫𝑛̃ā𝘯𝘢ṁ 𝘺𝘢𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘢𝘥𝘺ā𝘵 𝘬𝘶𝘳𝘺ā𝘵 𝘱ā𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘺𝘢 𝘴𝘢ṅ𝘬ṣ𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘮
𝘵𝘢𝘴𝘮ā𝘥 𝘥ī𝘬ṣ𝘦𝘵𝘪 𝘴ā 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘵ā 𝘥𝘦ś𝘪𝘬𝘢𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘷𝘢-𝘬𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘪ḥ
—true 𝘥ī𝘬ṣā is that process by which 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 and all previous sinful tendencies are destroyed. When genuine initiation descends through a bona fide Guru, 𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞, dissolving all prior material engagements and opening the path to spiritual life.

Śrīla Bhakti Rakṣak Śrīdhar Dev-Goswāmī Mahārāj has given a deeply illuminating analogy: we are like a lost child, living in a foreign land, dependent on temporary arrangements. But when we rediscover our true home, all those external dependencies naturally fall away. Similarly, through real 𝘥ī𝘬ṣā, we return “home”—to our eternal relationship with Śrī Kṛṣṇa. 𝘋ī𝘬ṣā is not addition—it is 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲.

However, we must confront a sobering reality. In this age, it is very easy to take chanting beads from imitators—those who outwardly pose as Gurus but inwardly pursue 𝘬𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘬𝘢 (wealth), 𝘬ā𝘮𝘪𝘯ī (sense enjoyment), and 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪ṣṭ𝘩ā (prestige). Such persons have little to no genuine submission to their own Gurus. From them, one may receive a form, a 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢, even a title—but not 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧. In such cases, we merely adopt the 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐞, while remaining disconnected from the transcendental current. This is not 𝘥ī𝘬ṣā—it is imitation.

Therefore, we must carefully examine: 𝐈𝐬 𝐦𝐲 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐮 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 ā𝐜ā𝐫𝐲𝐚𝐬? If our so-called Guru does not guide us according to what Ś𝐫ī𝐥𝐚 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐢 𝐍𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐲𝐚 𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐦𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐡ā𝐫ā𝐣, Ś𝐫ī𝐥𝐚 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐢 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐃𝐞𝐯-𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐰ā𝐦ī 𝐌𝐚𝐡ā𝐫ā𝐣, Ś𝐫ī𝐥𝐚 𝐀.𝐂. 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝ā𝐧𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐰ā𝐦ī 𝐌𝐚𝐡ā𝐫ā𝐣 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐡𝐮𝐩ā𝐝, Ś𝐫ī𝐥𝐚 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐢 𝐑𝐚𝐤ṣ𝐚𝐤 Ś𝐫ī𝐝𝐡𝐚𝐫 𝐃𝐞𝐯-𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐰ā𝐦ī 𝐌𝐚𝐡ā𝐫ā𝐣, Ś𝐫ī𝐥𝐚 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐢 𝐒𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐡ā𝐧𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐭ī Ṭ𝐡ā𝐤𝐮𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐡𝐮𝐩ā𝐝, Ś𝐫ī𝐥𝐚 𝐑ū𝐩𝐚 𝐆𝐨𝐬𝐰ā𝐦ī, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 Ś𝐫ī𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐡ā𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐡𝐮 have taught—then on what basis can we claim to belong to the Ś𝐫ī 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? Without alignment to this living current, the claim is empty. The connection is not real.

𝘋ī𝘬ṣā means to be connected to a 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧—not an abstract spirituality, not a self-made path. If that current is absent, then however impressive the external form may be, the substance is missing. One may chant, serve, and preach, but without proper connection, 𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞, not the transcendental domain.

The scriptures further guide us in the proper cultivation of initiation. The ninefold path of devotion is given in Śrīmad Bhāgavatam (7.5.23–24):

ś𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘢ṇ𝘢ṁ 𝘬ī𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘢ṁ 𝘷𝘪ṣṇ𝘰ḥ 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘢ṇ𝘢ṁ 𝘱ā𝘥𝘢-𝘴𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘮
𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘢ṁ 𝘷𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘢ṁ 𝘥ā𝘴𝘺𝘢ṁ 𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘩𝘺𝘢𝘮 ā𝘵𝘮𝘢-𝘯𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘮
𝘪𝘵𝘪 𝘱𝘶ṁ𝘴ā𝘳𝘱𝘪𝘵ā 𝘷𝘪ṣṇ𝘢𝘶 𝘣𝘩𝘢𝘬𝘵𝘪ś 𝘤𝘦𝘯 𝘯𝘢𝘷𝘢-𝘭𝘢𝘬ṣ𝘢ṇā
𝘬𝘳𝘪𝘺𝘦𝘵𝘢 𝘣𝘩𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘥𝘥𝘩ā 𝘵𝘢𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘦 ’𝘥𝘩ī𝘵𝘢𝘮 𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘮

“Hearing, speaking about, and remembering Kṛṣṇa, serving His lotus feet, worshipping His Deity form, praying, becoming His servant, cultivating His friendship, and surrendering to Him utterly are the nine processes of devotion. One who cultivates these nine processes of devotion, offering himself completely to Kṛṣṇa, can easily attain the ultimate goal of life.”

These processes are the 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐝ī𝐤ṣā, but they must be practiced under proper guidance, in harmony with Guru-varga.

So let us be sober and sincere. Dīkṣā is not cheap, and it is not automatic. It requires 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡, 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫. We must seek a Guru who is not self-centred, but 𝐆𝐮𝐫𝐮-𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐝—one who lives to fulfil the desire of his predecessors, not his own ambition.

Only then can the 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢 truly awaken within the heart. Only then can the soul transcend illusion. And only then can we genuinely say that we have received 𝘥ī𝘬ṣā in the line of Śrī Chaitanya Saraswat and are progressing toward the eternal service of Śrī Śrī Rādhā-Kṛṣṇa.
